Engineering Jobs at Ozer Engineering

Why Work at Ozer?

OZER is a boutique structural engineering firm focused on existing buildings. We help owners, architects, and contractors understand how structures perform over time—and how to strengthen, repair, and improve them responsibly.

Our work is practical, field-driven engineering. We spend time in buildings, not just behind a desk. We study how structures are actually built, diagnose problems, and provide clear engineering guidance that helps projects move forward safely and efficiently.

Early-career engineers at Ozer develop their foundation through hands-on investigation of real buildings—from houses to small commercial structures—while building the judgment and communication skills needed for larger commercial projects. You will work directly with senior engineers, observe construction, and learn how engineering decisions affect real buildings and real clients.

Because we are a small firm, every team member plays an important role. The right person will have the opportunity to grow quickly, take ownership of work, and help shape the future of the practice.

Structural Engineering Intern

Existing Buildings & Field Investigation

Location: Memphis, TN (Field + Office Hybrid)

Overview

OZER is a boutique structural engineering firm specializing in existing buildings. We help owners, architects, and contractors understand how structures perform over time—and how to strengthen, repair, and improve them responsibly.

We are offering just two internship positions for students in the final year of a Civil or Structural Engineering program, recent graduates seeking practical experience, or STEM OPT graduates pursuing engineering experience in the United States.

This internship is structured as a hands-on learning opportunity designed to expose emerging engineers to the practical side of structural engineering. Interns will work directly with the firm's Professional Engineer (PE) to observe and assist with real building investigations, structural assessments, and engineering reporting.

Because Ozer is a boutique firm, interns gain visibility into the entire engineering process—from field investigation to engineering recommendations and client communication.

Learning Experience

Interns will gain exposure to the practical aspects of structural engineering, including:

  • Observing and assisting with existing-conditions structural assessments

  • Participating in site investigations of residential and small commercial buildings

  • Learning how engineers identify structural issues and trace load paths in existing structures

  • Documenting field conditions using notes, photos, measurements, and sketches

  • Assisting with preparation of engineering reports and technical documentation

  • Observing construction and learning how engineering recommendations are implemented

  • Participating in internal discussions about structural observations and repair strategies

Interns will work closely with the supervising PE and will receive direct feedback and mentorship throughout the internship.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Students working under CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT authorization are eligible to apply.

  • Strong interest in structural engineering and existing buildings

  • Solid technical writing and communication skills

  • Basic understanding of structural systems, load paths, wood framing, and concrete foundations

  • Comfortable working in field environments including attics, crawlspaces, and construction sites

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel

Internship Structure

  • Limited to two interns every two years

  • Hybrid experience combining field investigation and office work

  • Flexible scheduling based on academic commitments

  • Direct mentorship with the firm's licensed Professional Engineer

  • Exposure to real projects and client-facing engineering work

Important Note

This internship is unpaid and designed as a structured learning experience for students or recent graduates seeking practical exposure to structural engineering practice. Interns will gain firsthand experience observing how engineers investigate buildings, develop engineering recommendations, and communicate with clients and contractors.
