DETAILS

The Bunge grain facility in Arkansas City, AR, is located on the Mississippi River. The facility has a large central grain silo capable of storing 1M bushels of grain and four smaller ancillary silos from which different grains are stored and loaded onto barges.

A single truck lane runs between the large and smaller silos and is where the grain is off loaded from trucks. Grain elevators convey the product to the appropriate silos. Bunge desired to add an additional truck lane to double their off load capacity.

Design constraints were a very narrow window within which the lane could be placed and an elevation difference between the existing grade and the finished elevation of the new truck lane. A composite steel deck supported by CMU walls and an additional grain elevator pit were constructed to accommodate the new truck lane.
