DETAILS
Four 5/8” diameter aircraft cables spanning almost a football field between telephone poles, lightly tensioned to form a gentle arc, pulled into a horizontal plane by a network of colored streamers. This graceful and seemingly effortless structure was built on a shoestring budget, but required advanced analysis to precisely model the arc of each cable and length of each streamer.
The structure was designed to be temporary – to soar for one year. 4 years later it’s still there, gracing the main intersection of a gritty but thriving neighborhood at the eastern edge of downtown Memphis.
